Hannah Sarhandi Rivas in Lockdown, directed by Daoud Sarhandi, 2020
VIDEOVALORES is an innovative cinematographic project that changes our perception of film, opening access to the creation of short films to everyone. The project guarantees that anyone can create a short film and transmit a universal message.
VIDEOVALORES aims to stimulate the creation of short films that explore possible scenarios of a better world, through the knowledge and practice of universal values - values such as tolerance, respect and freedom.
In the manner of a film 'postcard', VIDEOVALORES transmit a universal value accompanied by a final phrase, the P.S., which synthesises in a poetic and oblique way the message the director wishes to transmit.
Who can direct a VIDEOVALORES film? Women and men in any social or cultural circumstance, without any discrimination. Through a system of creation developed by Rivas and Sarhandi, an exploration of film language is stimulated and personal expression is encouraged. Participants, regardless of their profession or experience, identify vital experiences connected with universal values and working within this system find a practical way of converting them into images and sound.
Mobile phones or simple cameras are used as the principal creative tool, followed by editing sessions. Finally, VIDEOVALORES are shown in cinematic and cultural venues, at film festivals, and on prestigious online film platforms as well as on this website.
The mission of VIDEOVALORES focuses on four main areas:
- The combination of film education and the understanding and transmission of universal values.
- Providing visibility to people who because of their particular cultural, religious, professional or economic circumstances, have never had the opportunity to freely and meaningfully express themselves through film art.
- The strengthening of cultural links between citizens of different origins, promoting multicultural exchange, communication and cooperation between filmmakers.
- The use of mobile phones or pocket camera as a tool of creation and social intervention.
Crevices, 2017, directed by Dyaa Naim won a PLURAL+ Youth Video Festival prize in New York
